ECRI, on August 29, announced its new guidance on “Supporting Resilience in Healthcare Workers” that was published on August 15 for its members.
With a new focus on protecting healthcare workers against burnout and other behavioral health issues, new strategies for protecting and maintaining resilience have emerged, ECRI says.
The guidance recommends the following actions:
- Acknowledge and address challenges of job stress and resilience.
- Seek feedback on perceptions of and programs to foster staff resilience.
- Involve leadership and staff at all levels of a resilience initiative.
- Create a plan that allows flexibility for scheduling and workload as well as development of staff resilience resources.
- Be open to suggestions for culture changes, particularly those associated with employee support.
- Recognize good work and celebrate positive values and commitment.
- Regularly assess resilience and set reasonable expectations.
