Newspaper The Sun Chronicle reports on plans to build a joint-venture, single-specialty orthopedic ASC at Reservoir Landing, a shopping and business center in Mansfield, Mass.

Sturdy Health – University Orthopedics Center for Orthopedic Surgery, a joint venture between Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Mass., and University Orthopedics, would join neighbors at the 10.2-acre site such as a coffee house, a liquor store, a hotel and other businesses, including a University Orthopedics clinic.

According to a March 12 public announcement by University Orthopedics, the joint entity intends to file a Notice of Determination of Need with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for the creation of the single-specialty ASC. According to the statement, the ASC will contain four ORs, 12 pre/post-anesthesia care bays, and support spaces. “The total value of the Proposed Project based on the maximum capital expenditure is $10,834,483,” the statement revealed. The Sun Chronicle reports that the site will have total gross square footage of approximately 10,000 square feet.

Wayne C. Gietz, Sturdy Health’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, told the newspaper that the ASC will allow the hospital to open up ORs at Sturdy Memorial Hospital for other cases. He added that the partners hope to begin construction later this year.
