No state in the union has fewer ASCs than Vermont does, at just two. But it appears that it will soon gain a third.
According to reporting by Vermont Public, regulators at the Green Mountain Care Board have unanimously greenlit planned multispecialty ASC Upper Valley Surgery Center in Hartford, which intends to open “as soon as next year.”
ASC projects, notes the media outlet, are “exceedingly rare in Vermont, where strict regulations and hospital opposition have stymied projects in the past.” That is changing due to the rising cost of healthcare in the state.
Stakeholders in the ASC are preparing to close on a former car dealership that must undergo major renovations before the planned 15,000-square-foot facility can open, reports Vermont Public, which examined regulatory filings to determine that the ASC will have four ORs and offer orthopedic, spine, gynecological and urologic procedures “to start.”
