The Lund Report, an independent outlet for health news in Oregon and southwest Washington reported on an invite-only session conducted last week where Salem Health and Santiam Hospital & Clinics leaders answered questions from nearly 200 local business, nonprofit and government leaders about their proposed merger.
“The future of health care is collaboration,” said Santiam CEO Maggie Hudson, MBA, according to The Lund Report. “We have the same mission, the same values, we’re offering the same services – we need to do it collaboratively in order to face this new healthcare landscape.”
The proposed merger, in which Santiam would be absorbed into the Salem Health system, was formally announced in January. The hospitals hope for state approval later this year.
Ms. Hudson said the merger would allow Santiam to grow its services and infrastructure while recruiting and retaining more providers.
