CommonSpirit Health last week signed a definitive agreement to transfer ownership of Ohio-based Trinity Health System, including Trinity Medical Center West and Trinity Medical East in Steubenville, Trinity St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital, Trinity Twin City Medical Center in Dennison, and associated clinics, to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

The transaction is expected to be completed this fall, “pending regulatory review and customary closing conditions.”

UPMC currently operates more than 40 hospitals and 800 outpatient sites in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York. If completed, the transaction will significantly expand its presence in Ohio.

“We appreciate CommonSpirit Health’s thoughtful diligence in choosing UPMC for the transfer of Trinity Health System,” stated UPMC President and CEO Leslie Davis. “We look forward to a bright future ahead for our patients and community.”

CommonSpirit Health is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit Catholic healthcare organizations, with 158 hospital-based locations, more than 160,000 employees, 45,000 nurses and 25,000 physicians and advanced practice providers across 24 states. Steubenville, Ohio-based Trinity Health System currently is a “member” of CommonSpirit Health.
