On Sunday, Oct. 4, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm ET, five experienced perioperative leaders with a deep sense of mission about helping the next generation grow and thrive in their careers will assemble for our New Periop Leaders Preconference Workshop to kick off Periop Leader Week. These veteran leaders truly care about those who are finding their footing in new leadership roles in perioperative services, and the workshop program will maximize their insight, advice, guidance and perspective. If you’re a new perioperative leader, or are about to be, this will be a can’t-miss three hours.
Through a mix of mini-talks from each leader, an hour-long “Ask Me Anything” attendee-driven Q&A discussion, and five topical and interactive roundtable discussions through which each attendee will rotate, our experts are excited to spend time with up-and-coming leaders. They’ll answer your questions, address your concerns, and coach you up on what you really need to know as you take an exhilarating step forward in your career.

Let’s meet our five presenters!
Michelle Bassel, MBA, BSN, RN
Michelle Bassel, MBA, BSN, RN, is director of perioperative and women’s services at Dignity Health - Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. She’ll lead a “stop being the fixer” roundtable discussion about learning to lead instead of doing everything yourself. “I’m excited to be part of this workshop because I remember what it felt like to step into perioperative leadership and realize how much there was to learn beyond being a strong clinician,” she says. “Throughout my career, I’ve learned from every leader I’ve encountered. Some gave me ‘gems of light’—wisdom, encouragement, and lessons I still carry with me—while others showed me the kind of leader I never wanted to become. Both experiences helped shape who I am today. I believe leadership is a lot like being a lighthouse: we don’t need to steer someone else’s ship or fix every problem for them, but we can provide enough light to help them navigate their own path. I’m most excited to share some of those gems with new and emerging perioperative leaders as they discover the kind of leader they want to become.”
De André Delsol, MOL, CHL, CRCST
De André Delsol, MOL, CHL, CRCST, is a nearly 20-year sterile processing veteran who is also founder and CEO of Chike Healthcare Partners. “I’m excited about this workshop because I have the opportunity to hear what new leaders are most excited about in their healthcare leadership roles,” he says. “I would like to encourage them not to lose their motivation and belief that they can make a positive difference in the healthcare industry.” During the workshop’s third hour, he will lead a roundtable discussion on maintaining your integrity in leadership.
Malcolm Ladines, MS, MLS, BSN, RN, CSSBB, CQIA
Malcolm Ladines, MS, MLS, BSN, RN, CSSBB, CQIA, is business director of perioperative services at Baylor University Medical Center. During his roundtable, he’ll lead a discussion on expanding your role as a perioperative leader and growing in your career inside and outside of perioperative services, in both clinical and non-clinical areas. “I’m excited to talk to new leaders about stretching your boundaries and getting involved to gain more experience,” he says. “Each opportunity that comes up is a chance to improve yourself and build upon your resume, along with networking and connecting for when the next right opportunity comes up!”
Rebecca McKenzie, DNP, MBA, MSN, RN, NEA-BC
Rebecca McKenzie, DNP, MBA, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, is enterprise assistant vice president, perioperative and procedural services, at UK HealthCare. Her roundtable will focus on developing emotional intelligence as an essential leadership skill for today’s perioperative environments. “As a lifelong learner, I seek to ‘fill my cup’ by engaging with diverse perioperative leaders across the country in this workshop. I’m looking forward to helping new leaders invest in their resilience and self-growth, leverage our leadership skills and share pearls of wisdom to lead us all forward,” she says.
Leiran Cornish, MBA-HM, BSN, RN, LSSGB
Leiran Cornish, MBA-HM, BSN, RN, LSSGB, is assistant vice president, surgical services, at St. Joseph’s Health. She’ll lead a roundtable discussion on questions and topics new leaders wish they could ask executives. “When I started my perioperative leadership journey, I had several people who I could lean on for encouragement, mentoring and even sponsorship,” she says. “This helped open doors I never could have predicted. This workshop gives me an opportunity to give back and to share openly about the highs and lows of what it is to be a perioperative leader. Seeing the spark and light in curious newer leaders truly fills my cup and I am more than happy to help them succeed in their career and personal goals!”
