ASCA announces redesigned Benchmarking survey

The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) has unveiled a completely redesigned benchmarking survey that the organization states will provide its members a “more modern and personalized experience” that is more user-friendly.

Formerly known as ASCA’s Clinical & Operational Benchmarking Survey, the new ASCA Benchmarking survey is ready for Q1 data submissions. Survey subscriptions include access to data from all four quarters of the year. Non-member ASCs can participate in the 2026 survey for a fee of $4,079, while ASCA members for the first time can access the 2026 survey for free, although they must subscribe for no charge.

ASCA also announced that facilities now must answer at least 80% of the survey questions for a quarter to receive access to that quarter’s report, and reports will not be available for purchase. “This new requirement applies to ALL facilities, regardless of ASCA membership status,” ASCA adds.

ASCA states that the quarterly survey experience’s redesign enables members to see only questions relevant to their own centers. It also touts “expanded and more detailed questions that provide deeper insights,” and new specialty tracks for pediatrics, cardiovascular and endoscopy. It notes that the 2026 survey is conducted through a new platform, so if you’ve bookmarked the old survey in your browser, ASCA advises you not to use that old link.

About the survey

The Benchmarking survey provides access to “national comparison data you can use to improve clinical outcomes, financial performance, staffing and more at your ASC,” states ASCA, adding that it makes it easy to “measure your facility’s performance against all participating facilities or against similar ASCs, based on size, specialty, location and other characteristics. You can also use insights from the survey to identify areas to address in a QAPI study.”

The survey’s main sections include:

  • ASC Profile
  • Quarterly Volume (now including pediatric reporting)
  • Quality
  • All-Cause Hospital Transfer/Admission
  • Outcome of Care Measures
  • Complication Measures
  • Operational Measures
  • Staffing Measures
  • Financial Measures

Also included are five specialty-specific sections: ophthalmology, total joint replacement, complex spine, and two new specialties: endoscopy and cardiovascular.
