Cleveland Clinic has broken ground on a $322 million multi-phase expansion of Ohio’s Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital and its outpatient services-focused Richard E. Jacobs Health Center that it states will significantly increase the size of its Richard E. Jacobs Campus and “enhance access to advanced, patient-centered care for Lorain County’s growing population.”
Key components of the project include “growth of surgical services,” with the addition of operating rooms at Avon Hospital, and increased med-surg capacity with additional inpatient beds.
The project also includes expansion of the hospital’s emergency department, cancer center, imaging services, and ICU, as well as of the Richard E. Jacobs Health Center to “support increased outpatient care.”
“Together, these enhancements will strengthen Cleveland Clinic’s ability to deliver seamless care across emergency, inpatient and outpatient settings while improving access, efficiency and the overall patient experience,” stated the health system.
The expansion is expected to be complete in 2029. Five-story, 126-bed Avon Hospital opened in 2016, while the Richard E. Jacobs Health Center opened in 2011 housing an outpatient surgery center.
