Mankato (Minn.) Free Press reports that the multispecialty Mankato Surgery Center plans to “expand by 70% to meet growing patient demand.” The news outlet reports that, pending city reviews and permitting, construction could begin this fall with new ORs “in use before the end of 2027.”
Created as a joint venture by the Mankato Clinic and the Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic and built as a 15,000-square-foot facility in 2002, Mankato Surgery Center expanded in 2014 to 20,000 square feet. Administrator Garret Hilgendorf told the media outlet that it’s currently “the largest freestanding surgery center in the region,” but that “we’re at the point where the current facility doesn’t meet the demand from the patient-care perspective.”
According to the report, the proposed expansion would add two new ORs to the facility’s existing four ORs and “much more” pre-op and PACU space, while half of the facility will undergo a remodeling project “to modernize existing areas to improve overall patient experience and functionality, as well as bring the facility in line with the currently understood best practices.”
