Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Center is scheduled to fully open to patients on June 16 in Wilmington, N.C. The 250,000-square-foot, $294 million facility is described as New Hanover County’s first hospital opening in nearly 60 years.

The hospital will feature eight ORs, a 29-bed pre-op/post-op unit, and a 12-bed post-anesthesia care unit. Also on site will be two rooms for gastroenterology and endoscopy procedures, and a cardiac catheterization lab for interventional cardiology procedures. The hospital will open with 66 licensed inpatient beds and 14 dedicated patient observation rooms.

Novant Health adds that “digitally enabled hospital rooms” will “empower care teams to seamlessly collaborate with offsite specialty physicians for consultation or collaboration.”

The hospital connects to the existing and currently operating Novant Health Emergency Department - Scotts Hill, which Novant says will double in size this summer following completion of the project. Already on the same campus is Novant Health Scotts Hill Outpatient Surgery Center and Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Plaza, which the health system says is “designed to complement the hospital care onsite.”

When all hiring and onboarding is complete, the hospital will employ 700, says the health system.
