Slocum Orthopedics celebrates construction milestone on upcoming ASC

Community members, project partners, local leaders, and media were on hand as Slocum Orthopedics hosted a public Girder Signing event over the weekend at the construction site of what will become its new orthopedics ASC in Eugene, Ore.

“The event marks an important construction milestone for the new physician-owned orthopedic surgery center, which is being built to expand access to surgical care, reduce wait times, lower patient costs, and keep more care local for Lane County patient,” stated Slocum Orthopedics.

Scheduled speakers included Jennifer Yeh, Eugene City Councilor for Ward 4; Dana Siebert, managing director of Onward Eugene; Brian A. Jewett, MD, president and orthopedic surgeon at Slocum Orthopedics; Slocum CEO Todd Salnas, MBA; and the ASC’s administrator, Russell Roll.

The site will soon host a 34,000-square-foot orthopedic surgery facility with eight “fully-equipped” ORs, along with shell space for two additional ORs reserved for future expansion. The ASC will support outpatient procedures and 23-hour overnight stays.

Slocum says the new ASC will enable it to double its surgical capacity, increase scheduling flexibility, and reduce pressure on regional OR availability.

“The new surgery center represents a long-term investment in access, capacity, and local physician-led care,” said Mr. Salnas. “Signing and placing this girder gives our team, partners, and community members a chance to become part of the building in a very literal way.”

Slocum said it has served Eugene and the surrounding region since 1939, growing from a local orthopedic clinic into a regional center for specialized orthopedic care, employing an independent physician-led model.

The ASC, says Dr. Jewett, “gives us the space, technology, and flexibility to care for more patients in the right setting, while maintaining the clinical decision-making and local accountability that are central to who we are.”

Construction began following the project’s September 2025 groundbreaking, and the ASC is expected to open in spring 2027.
