The University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Clinton in St. Johns has received the go-ahead from its Board of Regents to build a new 22,000-square-foot ambulatory clinic center, add 19,000 square feet of new hospital space and perform a major hospital renovation.
The health system called the $62 million project a “response to sustained growth in outpatient and inpatient volumes and increasing demand for specialty services from residents of Clinton County and surrounding communities.”
The project will include the conversion of patient rooms into almost entirely private areas, expanded space and comfort for oncology patients, a larger surgical space, an MRI available seven days a week, a second CT scanner, and an expanded primary care practice and specialty care space.
Design and construction are expected to take 37 months.
The 25-bed hospital is a critical access hospital and Level IV Trauma Center that provides emergency and essential services to those in its largely rural area.
