The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) has published the results of its third-quarter 2026 60-Second Survey via its media outlet ASC Focus. The focus of the survey, which received 307 responses from ASCs in 44 states, is a relevant one: “facility operations related to anesthesia services.”

Some of the findings:

  • 76% of respondents “reported having adequate access to anesthesia providers”—an improvement over previous ASCA surveys earlier this decade. The survey found that the anesthesia situation was even more favorable among ASCs with one or two ORs or procedure rooms than it was with larger ASCs.
  • 88% of ASCs that rely exclusively on MD anesthesiologists reported adequate access to providers, while 72% of facilities that used certified registered nurse anesthetists or certified anesthesiologist assistants supervised by MD anesthesiologists reported adequate access.
  • Regarding the top barriers to maintaining anesthesia services, 81% reported limited availability of providers and 66% reported high costs.
  • 82% of respondents reported using contracted anesthesia services rather than in-house providers.
  • 31% are offering financial assistance as incentives in contracts with anesthesia providers or groups.
