ABC affiliate WQOW-TV reports that Mayo Clinic Health System plans to break ground on a six-floor, 128,400-square-foot surgical and procedural building on its Eau Claire, Wis., campus in spring 2027, with a planned completion date of fall 2029.
Richard Helmers, MD, vice president of Mayo Clinic Health System Wisconsin, said the expansion will bring 25 new hospital beds and “more” operating rooms to the campus. The TV station added that, according to Dr. Helmers, a goal of the project is to “bring some of the care” at Mayo’s Rochester, [Minn.] campus to western Wisconsin. “This facility will allow us to attract really top talent so that we can continue to get really incredible surgery and medical care here in the Chippewa Valley,” he said.
Mayo plans to begin the project by demolishing the Amalia Building, the site’s original hospital built in 1908, according to WQOW, followed by the demolition of an adjacent childcare facility that will be reconstructed elsewhere on the campus. The TV station adds that Mayo is expanding the campus’ Menard Center for Emergency Care, adding more than 10,000 square feet to that existing facility by early next year.
