The American Hospital Association’s American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) has released a new resource to “help facilities leaders modernize maintenance practices, improve operational reliability and support safe, uninterrupted patient care.”
Health Care Maintenance and Operations: The Facilities Management Handbook, the newest addition to ASHE’s Health Care Facilities Management Handbook Series, delves into health care asset management (HCAM), which ASHE calls a proactive approach to maintenance and operations (M&O) that utilizes predictive risk assessment and reliability-centered tactics to get ahead of critical M&O issues before they cause severe and costly problems.”
The handbook “teaches how to use HCAM to avoid reactionary firefighting, rein in the unwieldly job of healthcare M&O, and institute a methodical, data-powered and technology-driven M&O strategy that ensures facilities stay compliant, optimized and delivering high-quality care 24/7.” ASHE adds that the handbook “provides new and long-time facilities managers an essential primer on core M&O work and goals that are unique to the health care physical environment.”
