Connecticut-based Constitution Surgery Alliance (CSA), which develops, owns and operates ASCs, has expanded into Michigan through new partnerships with the Detroit metropolitan area’s UnaSource Surgery Center and MiOrtho Surgery Center.
“Through these partnerships, UnaSource and MiOrtho will gain access to CSA’s operational expertise, data and analytics platform, and strategic resources to support continued clinical excellence and long-term growth,” stated CSA.
Seven-specialty UnaSource opened in 2004; it houses five ORs and a staff of 50 surgeons. It’s one of only 10 ASCs nationwide to earn Advanced Orthopedic Certification in total joint replacement and complex spine surgery from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). “Our partnership with CSA will help us advance our shared priorities in patient safety, physician collaboration and strategic growth,” stated orthopedic surgeon Robert Kohen, MD, a UnaSource board member.
Four-OR MiOrtho, also accredited by the AAAHC, was founded in 2021 by Michigan Orthopaedic Surgeons (MOS), the state’s largest independent orthopedic group with more than 50 physicians and 13 locations across southeastern Michigan. MOS surgeons operate at both UnaSource and MiOrtho, which CSA states creates “a foundation for collaboration across the two surgery centers.”
“Our goal was to find a partner that could strengthen our operations, help us navigate an evolving healthcare marketplace and support our long-term growth,” stated orthopedic surgeon and MOS President Jad Khalil, MD. "CSA brings deep ASC expertise that will help us pursue new development opportunities across Michigan, while advancing our clinical programs, data collection and research capabilities. We share a commitment to clinical quality, and we believe this partnership will position our centers for continued success.”
