Regional health system Intermountain Health proposed some major moves over the last week.
Most recently, it announced expansion plans in Southeast Idaho, where it has collaboratively owned a local health network with Surgery Partners and physicians since 2023. Intermountain and Surgery Partners have now “placed into escrow signature pages to definitive agreements” that would find Surgery Partners selling its ownership interests in the network—including Mountain View Hospital, Idaho Falls Community Hospital, and more than 60 affiliated clinics—to Intermountain Health. Physician ownership of Mountain View Hospital would remain unchanged, according to Surgery Partners.
The transaction values the combined facilities at approximately $1.15 billion, with total consideration to Surgery Partners at approximately $795 million. Completion of the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, until which, according to Surgery Partners, “there is no assurance regarding the completion of the transaction.” Pending approvals, the partners expect the transaction to close “in the coming months.”
Earlier last week, Intermountain and AdventHealth announced plans for a partnership to “strengthen healthcare for Denver metro communities.” The systems have signed a letter of intent and anticipate signing a definitive agreement “in the coming weeks” to form a joint venture in the region. The proposed affiliation would unite AdventHealth’s five Denver-area hospitals—AdventHealth Avista, AdventHealth Castle Rock, AdventHealth Littleton, AdventHealth Parker, and AdventHealth Porter—with three Intermountain hospitals—Good Samaritan Hospital, Lutheran Hospital and Platte Valley Hospital. Intermountain Health’s Saint Joseph Hospital and affiliated clinics are not included in the joint venture.
Under the proposed agreement, AdventHealth would manage the system and lead daily operations. “By bringing together the capabilities of our organizations, we can expand access, augment services, enhance clinical quality, and continue improving the health and well-being of people across the greater Denver metro,” stated AdventHealth President and CEO David Banks.
The transaction, pending regulatory approvals, is expected to close in early 2027.
