OrthoCarolina is stepping up its ASC presence in the Charlotte, N.C., region. The physician-owned-and-led orthopedic practice last week announced plans for a new orthopedic ASC in Steele Creek and an expansion of its existing ASC in Matthews.
OrthoCarolina stated that these moves will boost its ASC OR capacity from four to 10 over the next 18 months. It stated that the expansion will build on its “strategic shift toward outpatient surgical care and value-based orthopedic delivery models amid evolving Certificate of Need laws in North Carolina.” It stated that it has sharpened its focus “towards its core orthopedic business, including the divestiture of ancillary service lines and reinvestment into ASC growth and outpatient access across the Carolinas.”
The four-OR Steele Creek ASC is expected to open by the end of 2027, while the expansion of the Matthews ASC from two ORs to four is already under construction and expected to be completed by the end of this year. OrthoCarolina operates another ASC in Charlotte’s Mallard Creek area.
